  3. My Use of the Internet

  7.      My name is Bill Frantz. I am a 51 year old computer consultant,
  8.      and I live in Los Gatos, California.
  9.  
  10.      I use the Internet both for my business and for my personal
  11.      activities. I communicate with clients, and keep up with advances
  12.      in the state of computer technology. I use PGP when my clients
  13.      require confidentiality because it is the only system I have
  14.      available which provides at least 90 bits in its symmetric key
  15.      encryption.

  17.      As part of my personal activities, I participate regularly in
  18.      several on line forums, covering public policy, environmental
  19.      issues, and speleology. These forums allow me to communicate with
  20.      people around the world who share my interests. Freedom of speech
  21.      on the Internet allows us to discuss the direction of scientific
  22.      research, debate the merits of public policies, support
  23.      candidates, plan meetings, and develop new cave rescue protocols,
  24.      to name just a small sample. Internet communication allows us to
  25.      overcome the barriers of time zone and space, and create an
  26.      online community.

  28.      I also use email to communicate with my family. My sons are a
  29.      long distance away, and it is far easier to reach them through
  30.      email than it is to catch them at home on the telephone. With the
  31.      distances separating us, it is easier to develop family plans
  32.      through email than it is over the telephone. For exchanges
  33.      requiring confidentiality , PGP encrypted email is the safest
  34.      long distance option.

  36.      All in all, the Internet is a tool which enhances my life and
  37.      allows me to be a better citizen. Bill
